Projektbeskrivning
BARFOT är ett multicenterprogram för uppföljning av patienter med nyupptäckt reumatoid artrit i vilket följande reumatologenheter deltar: Helsingborg, Kristianstad, Spenshult, Sahlgrenska/Mölndal, Kalmar och Karolinska/Huddinge.

BARFOTs främsta syfte är att verka för en förbättrad prognos för varje enskild patient som insjuknar i reumatoid artrit. För att nå detta mål har vi utarbetat ett strukturerat program för tidig diagnostik, utvärdering och uppföljning. Vi har applicerat nya metoder för bedömning av prognos och sjukdomsförlopp och för utvärdering av behandlingseffekter. Härigenom har vi skapat en god bas för kvalitetssäkring och resultatvärdering, vilket också kom att ligga till grund för det Svenska Reumatologiregistret.

Patienterna har inkluderats mellan 1992 och 2006 och följs sedan under 15år. Totalt är 2800 personer inkluderade i BAROT. Uppföljningarna har skett vid inklusion, 3 och 6 månader samt vid 1, 2, 5, 8 och 15 år. Kliniska data, röntgen och blodprover samlats in vid uppföljningarna. Vid två tillfällen (2010 samt 2017) har också enkäter med frågor om levnadsvanor och smärta skickats ut.
